Alex Leaf passes at Turlock Sunday

Following a week's illness, Alex T Leaf passed away at a Turlock hospital early sunday morning. A native of Sweden, the deceased was 76 years of age.

Coming to Chicago as a small boy, the major portion of his life was spent there. He was married to his first wife in 1878, and following her decease, he was married a second time in 1907, the latter passing away in 1929. The family have been Patterson residents since 1920. Eight children survive. Five- Alice, Florence, Lila, Charley and George lived in Chicago, with David at Oakland, Marie at Turlock and Arthur here. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon from the Swedish Mission church with Rev C.A. Hedlind in charge, followed by interment in Del Puerto cemetery. Davis and Evans were in charge of arrangements.

Sudden Passing of Mrs. Alex Leaf

Falling from her chair as she was preparing  to operate a sewing machine friday morning. Mrs Anna Leaf passed away without warning at the family home on South Fifth Street. The deceased was a native of sweden aged 55 years, and had been a resident of Patterson for the past nine years, the family coming here from chicago.She is survived by her husband, Alex Laef; three children, David, Marie and Arthur; her parents, Mr and Mrs A.M. Quist of Patterson; three sisters, Mrs J.J. Carlson, Mrs C.R. Almquist and Celia Quist all of patterson; three brothers residing in Minnesota. Funeral services were held monday afternoon from the Swedish Mission Church with Rev. H. E. Norquist officiating, followed by interment in Del Puerto cemetery. Davis & Evans had charge of arrangements.

Patterson- Services will be conducted at 11 am tomorrow in the Mission Covenant Church for Arthur Samuel Leaf, 63, who died Wednesday of an apparent heart attack at his jewelry shop at 19 Del Puerto Ave. Burial will be in Patterson District Cemetery. A native of Chicago, he lived here since 1920. He leaves his widow Helen of Patterson; a daughter, Patricia Stewart of Anaheim; a brother, David Leaf of Patterson and two grandchildren. In charge of arrangements is the Evans Funeral Chapel.

Dave Leaf, Longtime Pattersonite, Dies

Services will be held tomorrow at 9:30 a.m. at the Covenant Church in Patterson for longtime resident David Leaf, who died of a long illness Wednesday in a Modesto hospital. Visitation can be made at the Hillview Funeral Chapel today, Thursday from 4-8 p.m. and burial will be in the Patterson District Cemetery. Remembrances can be sent to the Covenant Church. Leaf was born Aug. 7, 1908 in Chicago and moved to Patterson in 1921. He graduated from Patterson High School and was a member of the varsity basketball team in 1924-26. He also participated in football and track. He was a member of the local business community and, with his late brother, Arthur, owned Leaf's Market, the building which now houses Marty's General Store. He was a charter member of both the Patterson Fire Department and the Patterson 20-30 Club, and was a member of the Patterson Rotary for over 35 years, serving two terms as its secretary-treasurer. He also served as president of the  Patterson Business Association and was president of the Northern California Public Accountants Association for two terms. Leaf was a member of the Covenant Church, in which he held various offices, the latest being Chairman. He also presided for two terms over the local 50-Plus Club. After working as officer manager for Howk Well and Equipment Company for over 20 years, he operated his own tax accounting business in Patterson for nine years before retiring. He was also for 10 years treasurer of the Apricot Fiesta. He is survived by his wife Myrtle, Patterson; daughter Marjorie Wydenes, San Jose; daughter, Janet Schali, Patterson; son David Jr., Martinez; and eight grandchildren.

Myrtle Elizabeth Hidlind Leaf, 92, of Turlock died Thursday at her daughter's home in Hughson.

Mrs. Leaf was a native of Hold- redge, Neb. She had lived in Turlock since 1989 and previously in Patterson since 1947. Mrs. Leaf was the organist for more than 40 years at Patterson Covenant Church, of which her father was founding pastor. She played at many weddings and funerals in the Patterson church. She was also a member of Cornerstone Covenant Church. She belonged to the Patterson Garden Club and the Patterson 50-Plus club.

She is survived by her children, David Leaf Jr. of Martinez, Janet Schali of Hughson and Marjorie Wydenes of Pacific Grove; brother, Jerome Hidlind of Gustine; and eight grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, David Leaf; and a grandson.

Visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Hillview Funeral Chapel, Patterson. Private burial at Patterson District Cemetery.

Rites Wednesday for Helen Leaf

A funeral service will be held here Wednesday for longtime Patterson resident Helen Elvira Leaf. She died Friday in Modesto at age 75. A native of Turlock, she lived in Patterson for over 40 years and was a member of the Evangelical Covenant Church here. For a number of years she was employed at Harley's Department Store in Patterson. The memorial service will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. at the Covenant Church with the Rev. Richard Kelly officiating. Burial will be in Patterson District Cemetery. Hillview Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. Survivors include a daughter, Patricia Stewart of San Jose; a sister, Eleanor Lindvall of Modesto; two grandchildren and three great -grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Leaf.
