Born on April 10, 1922 in Covelo, CA, passed away on November 24, 2009 in Carmichael, CA. Daughter of Susie and Daniel Campbell, she was of Native American (Pomo) and Scottish descent. Preceded in death by beloved husband Mohamed Sher Afzal, son Joseph Sher Afzal and siblings Violet, Doris, Amy, Cynthia and Arthur, all of the Campbell clan. She married in 1941 and lived in Sacramento until 1983 when she relocated to Reno, Nevada. She will be very sadly missed by her children: Karen Edwards, Larry Afzal, Jane Afzal and Mohamed A. Afzal. She will be deeply missed by the one sole surviving member of her generation of the Campbell clan, her sister Carlyn Graham. 5 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren also survive her. Gladys will be hugely missed by any and all that she touched with her life. Friends and family are invited to attend visitation on Thursday, December 3, 2009 from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. and funeral services on Friday, December 4, 2009, 1:00 P.M. at Lind Brothers Funeral Home, 4221 Manzanita Ave., Carmichael, CA. Interment will follow service at Mount Vernon Memorial Park, Sacramento, CA.

Robert Dane Allen, 36, of Carmichael died Tuesday, Sept. 6, in Roseville Community Hospital. He had been a lifelong resident of Yuba City until moving to Carmichael six months ago. He was a native of Tahlequah, Okla. He worked as a real estate salesman for various agencies. He is survived by a brother, Donald Allen, of Rocklin; Brenda Glover of Carmichael and a niece. Funeral services are scheduled Friday at 10 a.m. at Lip & Sullivan Chapel with the Rev. Carole Matthews of Grace United Methodist Church of Yuba City officiating. Burial will be in Sutter Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled for noon to 8 p.m. Thursday in the chapel.

Case of Drowning in Tehama

R.F. Bell, of this place, was drowned in the Sacramento river yesterday while attemtping to cross with seven othersin a small boat. They were but a short distance from shore, when the boat struck a snag, and the passengers becoming frightened, commenced jumping out and capsized the boat. All but Bell swam ashore, His body has not been recovered. Bell leaves a wife and several children to mourn his loss. He was an old resident of Tehama county.

Janet Lorraine Blaney, 63, of Redding died Sunday, May 9, 1999, at her residence. No services will be conducted. Burial will be at East Lawn Memorial Park in Sacramento. Born July 7, 1935, in Sacramento, she moved to Shasta County in 1986 from Weaverville. She was an account clerk for Shasta and Trinity counties. Survivors include husband Bruce; sons Kenneth of Roseville, Robert of Oroville and Fredrick of Bangor; daughters Patti Funkhouser of Auburn and Larua Dietz of Corpus Christi, Texas; brother Robert Vollmer of Eureka; sister Nancy Cortopassi of Wilton; mother Beatrice Vollmer of Wilton; 13 grandgildren; and two great-grandchildren. Memorial contributions may be made to the Gideons Internation in Redding CA or the American Cancer Society in Redding CA. Arrangements are being handled by Lawncrest Funeral Chapel in Redding.

Dear sister of Iran Hoaglen, Irene Azbill & Genevive Cordova. Also survived by 42 grandchildren and 47 great grandchildren, also aunts, Florence and Alda and an uncle Claude Hoaglen. Also survived by many nieces, nephews and many friends. She is preceded in death by her husband Clarence S. Bruno Sr., two sons, Charlie Wright and Ricky Bruno, both parents Ira Hoaglen and Sarah Lee (Davis) Hoaglen. Also brothers Louis Hoaglen & Lilburn Hoaglen. She was a member of The Pentecostal Church. Buttleman, Clay

Memorial services for Clay Buttleman, 74, a longtime Sacramento bartender, will be held at 12:30 pm Saturday at the North Sacramento Funeral Home. A native of Montague, Mich., he had lived in Sacramento for 42 years. He was bar manager at the Coral Reef, and also worked at the Town and Country Bowl, and the Sacramento Inn, where he was working when he retired in 1977. He was active with the Lions and Moose organizations and was secretary of the Hotel and Restaurant Employees and Bartenders Union, Local 49. He was a past president of the Beverage Dealers Association. He was an avid gardener and for 10 years maintained what came to be known as “Clay’s South Forty,” a half acre flower and vegetable garden at the Fulton Oaks Apartments, where he lived with his wife, Geneva, who died three months ago. Surviving are his children, Marlee Kessler, Michele Swanberg, Trudy Woods and Michael Buttleman; stepchildren, Brook Carlos and Susan Clark; seven grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, a great-grandchild and three nieces.

Wallace James Coats, 75, of Sacramento died July 12, 2000 at Mercy San Juan Hospital in Sacramento. Born in Marysville, he was a Yuba-Sutter resident for 26 years before settling in Sacramento 41 years ago. He was an attorney and a graduate of Yuba College, a 1952 graduate of the University of California, Berkeley, studying English and History, and a 1958 graduate of the University of San Francisco Law School. He was appointed deputy commissioner of corporations for the State of California and retired into private practice in 1968, practicing law into the 1990's. In addition, he served as a sonar officer in the U. S. Navy during World War 11. Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Dorothy Coats of Sacramento; a son, Wallace James Coats of Knights Landing; 3 daughters, Laura Jane Coats of Larkspur, Mary Patricia Kashuba of Colfax and Barbara Rae Ward of Eugene, Or; 2 brothers, Robert T. Coats of Live Oak, and Arthur W. Coats Jr. of Cambria; and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Lauren Coats and Wilson Coats and a sister Jane Coats Cotton. Donations may be made to Sutter Historical Society. A rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. Sunday at Ullrey Memorial Chapel in Yuba City. A graveside service will be conducted at 10 am Monday in Sutter Cemetery. The Rev. Manuel Soria of St. Isidore Church will officiate.

Private services for Bernice G. Coupe, 83, formerly of Marysville, will be conducted at 7 p.m. today in Sacramento. She died Sept. 3, 1988, in Fair Oaks following a lengthy illness. Burial will be in Dobbins Catholic Cemetery. She taught elementary school in the Yolo County School District for 20 years. She moved to the Sacramento area after her husband, former Yuba County supervisor Charles Coupe, died in 1977. Survivors include: two step-sons, Robert C. Coupe, D.D.S. of Sacramento and Edwin Coupe, D.D.S. of San Francisco; and 5 step-grandchildren. Arrangements are under the direction of W.F. Gormley & Sons Funeral Home in Sacramento.

Death of Dr. Hermance -- Dr. Hermance, an old resident of Sacramento and member of the bar, died at his ranch on the Consumnes on Friday last after two or three days illness. The Doctor has been for several years in an excited and unnatural state of mind as an anti-Spiritualist. He was recently brought to the city on a charge of insanity, but was again released after examination by the proper physicians.

Born in Sacramento, CA, on June 1, 1920, she along with her husband and daughter moved to San Francisco where she was employed by Title Insurance and Trust for thirty-six years. She was very active in her daughter's high school YMCA Tri-Y club. She and her husband moved to Belmont, CA, nearly forty years ago She is survived by her immediate family including daughter, Lovelle Mayfield of San Jose; grandchildren, Kerry Brownfield, Matt Huxley, and Jill Matthews and her great grandchildren, Ryan Dolan, Grant Brownfield, Brenden and Delaney Matthews and Grace Huxley, as well as countless other relatives and close friends. Gladys Mayfield, devoted wife of her beloved, late husband, Bill Mayfield for 57 years, was known for her warm smile, kind and gentle spirit, and gracious laugh. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend who had a way of making both friends and strangers feel completely comfortable and at ease in her presence. Her love for the simple, yet beautiful things in life including butterflies, hummingbirds, trees, a laughing child and conversing with friends and family remind us all of what truly matters. Gladys will be greatly missed although her sprit, character, and zeal for life will continue to manifest in all of those who had the good fortune of knowing her. She has joined her best friend and husband and will continue to look down and bless those she loved. June McPherrin Pease July 31, 1915 - September 29, 2007 June Branch went to be with the Lord on September 29, 2007, at the age of 92. June was born June Willmettia McPherrin in Meridian, Calif., on July 31, 1915, the second child of Ruby Taylor McPherrin and Arthur Marion McPherrin. June had four children - three daughters and a son - with her first husband, the late Clarence Pease. The couple divorced in 1953. In 1956, June married Jim Branch, who had a young son. Jim Branch died in 1959 and June, as a single parent, raised her stepson along with her four children. June was a straight-A student, was the girls' tennis champion in high school and also was valedictorian of her senior class at Sutter Union High School in 1932. June was a wonderful cook and did excellent needlepoint and embroidery work. June loved to read, work crossword puzzles, and travel. She also loved music and played the piano and violin. June lived in Sacramento for nearly 60 years. She was a long-time member of Freeport Boulevard Christian Church and later First Christian Church and sang in the church choir for many years. Before her children were born, June worked as a legal secretary. After raising her children, June worked for the State of California's Office of Emergency Services for about 10 years. That work took her on her first airplane flight and to an earthquake disaster area. June is survived by her daughters Sharon (Pease) Dobbins (Jim) of Fair Oaks, Marian (Pease) Del'Marmol (Bill) of Citrus Heights, and Carole Pease Sartenaer (Eric) of Berkeley, her son Arthur Pease (Francis) of Sacramento, her stepson Jerry Branch (Chris) of Folsom, ten grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. June also is survived by her sister, Shirley Schnider, several nieces and a nephew. June was preceded in death by her brother Marion McPherrin, who died in 1941. In her latter years, June battled Alzheimer's disease but she never lost her grace, humility, and lovely smile. June was a most precious person, a wonderful mother and dearly loved by her family. June forever will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by her children. June's family wishes to thank all the wonderful and caring staff of Sunrise Assisted Living of Fair Oaks, where June lived the last two years of her life. Private funeral services were scheduled for this morning at Ullrey Memorial Chapel for Fannie Wynecoop, 62, of Citrus Heights. Miss Wynecoop, a native of Sutter, died Sunday in a Sacramento hospital following a short illness. Survivors include four sisters, Meribah Lathrop and Violet Schellenger of Sutter, Virginia MacLean of Paradise and Florence Wynecoop of Santa Rosa. Burial was to follow at the Sutter Cemetery.
