[Extracted from notes found at the LDS Library, Salt Lake City, UT] Burials of people with questionable reputations: Those persons known to be buried in Bodie, the location of their graves are unknown, some are buried in Foothill, and outside the respectable Cemeteries: Eleanor Dumont "Madame Mustache" Died October 7,1880 of Suicide by poisoning. (Eleanor Dumont; A petite French Lady, famous and respected by the Miners of Bodie, Virginia City and various other Mining Camps. A gambler by profession, she lost her stake in Bodie and committed suicide. From the Bodie Standard News, Oct. 9, 1880, a report of the incident was carried. "Last Monday, the dead body of a woman was found about 2 miles south of Bodie on the road leading to Bridgeport. The body was identified as that of Madam Dumont, familiarly known as "Madam Mustache" in almost every mining camp from Utah and Idaho to California. She was a French woman, very quiet and inoffensive, but with a very strong propensity for gambling. Her favorite game was "21" which she has dealt for many years. With her dead body was discovered an empty poison vial which told the tale of suicide....For 21 years, she has been a familiar character to the shifting population of the mining camps.) Turner Aged 19 years Feb. 9, 1882 Her body was dug up by Dr. Blackwood for the purpose of dissecting the body -- her skull came into the possession of Dr, Jones. When Dr. Blackwood finished his work, he had 2 men dump a box containing the remains, into the Ajax mine shaft. However, a miner at the Bodie mine saw the incident and he and several others investigated, and made the gruesome discovery. At the hearing Dr. Blackwood testified he knew nothing about the reamins; he "jumped" town and was never overtaken.
