The Spanish Franciscan Missionary

Presidios
The presidios (fortified military bases) were built by the Spanish government to protect the missions.

There were five of them:

1) El Presidio Real de San Diego
2) El Presidio Real de San Carlos de Monterey
3) El Presidio Real de San Francisco
4) El Presidio Real de Santa Barbara
5) El Presidio de Sonoma
