Madera Biographies: RIVERS

 

PAUL L. RIVERS

Paul L. Rivers is the administrator of the Madera City elementary schools, with the title of district superintendent. He has been with the Madera schools for the past five years and has been connected with schools in the San Joaquin Valley for the last nine years.

Mr. Rivers was born in Clinton, Missouri, November 28, 1896, the son of John R. and Louisa (Hunt) Rivers. He was educated in the Missouri schools and at the Central Missouri State College, at Warrensburg, where he received his A. B. degree in 1925. He took postgraduate work at the University of Colorado. In 1928, be received his A. M. degree from Stanford University.

Mr. Rivers began teaching in Missouri, and was also engaged in his profession for a year in Montana. Coming to California in 1924, he was principal of the Washington grammar school at Reedley for four years.

At Madera, Mr. Rivers became principal of the Lincoln grammar school in 1928. He now has four schools under his administration, the Lincoln, Pershing, Washington and Burbank schools.

Mr. Rivers is married to Mildred Calkins of Warrensburg, Missouri. Mr. and Mrs. Rivers have one son, John.

In the Great War, Mr. Rivers served in the quartermaster’s corps. He is a member of the American Legion, and of the Masonic order.
