MEDICAL CERTIFICATES


DOCTORS, DENTISTS, OPTOMETRY, CHIROPRATORS, & MISC.

FOR REFERENCE:
Although people were practicing Medicine and Dentistry from the time before California became a state, when these regulating Boards of Examiners were created, existing practioners were required to register and show that they were competent:

The regulations of the Medical Society of the State of California were approved
April 3, 1876; amended April 1, 1878 The Board of Examiners of the Medical Society of Homeopathic Practitioners,
followed the same regulations The Board of Examiners of the Eclectic Medical Society, also followed the same
regulations

  • The State Board of Dental Examiners regulations were approved March 12, 1885
  • The State Board of Optometry was created in 1903; amended June 16, 1913 ?
  • The State Board of Pharmacy was created March 15, 1901 (although I found one
    place that said March 11, 1891)
  • The State Board of Examiners of Naturopathic Physicians regulations were
    approved March 14, 1907; amended March 19,1909
  • The State Board of Osteopathic Examiners was created   ?
  • The State Board of Chiropractic Examiners was created   ?
  • The Midwife was licensed from the certificate from the Illinois State
    Board of Health

  • In some cases the Dental Certificates stated "D.D.S.", but some didn't
  • Sometimes there was no M. D. after the Physician's name. Possibly means
    something; possibly an oversight by the County Clerk.
