KELSEYVILLE PIONEER CEMETERY

  • Kelseyville Pioneer Cemetery - This cemetery has some of the original settlers of Lake County. Interrments stopped in 1884. Some of the bodies from Pioneer cemetery were removed and re-interred in the Odd Fellows cemetery (Kelseyville Cemetery), but there are approximately 100 graves in Pioneer. Not all of them have gravestones. The Kelseyville Cemetery District finally bought the historic cemetery sometime after 1980, to try to preserve it, but many headstones have been destroyed due to vandalism. About 1960, the American Legion Post 194 cleaned up the cemetery and put up a fence and sign; in the 1970s the Kelseyville Lions Club cleaned up this cemetery and straightened a few markers; in 1989 the Kelseyville Lioness Club and Wynacht Memorials, Inc. made it their "pet project", with a new fence and repairs to the monuments. In 1991, the cemetery was again vandalized. At that time, they listed only 25 headstones in the cemetery (19 of them toppled and broken). This list is compiled from many old sources. Many of the stones have been destroyed since this information was compiled many years ago. There may be corrections as new information is learned.
