Alpine County Cemeteries
There once was a cemetery on Monitor Pass dating to the mid to late 1800s and early 1900s. It was buried under Highway 89 when it was built in the 1950s. Apparently, there are no existing records. There was once a cemetery in Markleeville and two at or near Silver Mountain City, as well. Whether any of them exist today is questionable. Every reasonable effort is being made to determine the locations, then survey, all Alpine County cemeteries.
