Bridgeport Cemetery Veterans

Submitted by Dayle L. DeBry and Karla Archuleta of The Joshua Journal

The following is a list of military veterans interred at the Bridgeport Cemetery in Mono Co., California as of September 2004.  The original list of names only, no other information, was given to me by Josie Annett of Bridgeport.  She gave me a section map of the cemetery with numbers corresponding with the headstones.  From that information I transcribed the headstones and have added more information researched from birth/death records; Census records; World War I Draft Registration cards; World War II Army Enlistment Records, National Archives; Civil War records; obituaries and family correspondence.

Several of the people listed are buried in what is known as the Indian Section.  I have noted next to the name who is buried in that area, which is outside of the actual main cemetery.  I have chosen to list these men and women in alphabetical order, not by row and section.  Karla Archuleta is researching the men in this section.

Inscribed on the headstone of S.V. Boone:

“Away – With a cheery smile and a wave of the hand, He has wandered into an unknown land.  Think of him still as the same, I say:  He is not dead, he is just away.”
