Robert H. Yates is the youngest member of the Board of Supervisors of Madera County, and was elected in 1930.

Mr. Yates was born at Manson, Calhoun county, Iowa, February 6, 1886, the son of Benjamin Franklin and Rosa (Robison) Yates. His father was a stock raiser in the northwest section of Iowa. The younger man in 1908 went to Spokane, Washington, where he was employed by the Washington Water Power Company for some years. From there he removed to Los Angeles, and for three years was with the Pacific Electric Railroad.

In 1915 Mr. Yates came to Madera County and located in Central Colony, where he has since farmed. He owns a 35-acre place, and has at times leased other land for growing cotton. He grows grapes, plums and alfalfa on his home place.

Mr. Yates’ supervisoral district includes the areas of Chowchilla, Sharon, Dixieland, Fairmead, Dairyland, Ashview, Alamo and Berenda.

In 1915 Mr. Yates was married to Mrs. Daisy K. Duke, a native of Kentucky. He has one stepdaughter, Hattie (Mrs. L. C. Wood of Woodland).

Mr. Yates is a member of Chowchilla Lodge No. 485, F. and A. M., and of the Chowchilla Chapter of the Eastern Star. Before being elected Supervisor, he served as school trustee of the Central Colony district.
