First Generation

1. Michael Fahey  was born in 1805 in Ireland. He died on 31 May 1873 in Imperial, Allegheny Co., PA.

Michael became a naturalized citizen on 30 Oct 1860 in Western Pennysylvania. In 1870 he was a pealer

in Noblestown, South Fayette Twp., Allegheny Co., PA with wife Elizabeth and children Mary, Mattie, and

William.

Michael married Elizabeth McMillen . Elizabeth was born in 1818. She died on 28 Mar 1881 in Imperial, Allegheny Co., PA.

They had the following children:

+           2 M        i.  Joseph William Fhy  was born on 15 Mar 1857. He died on 7 Nov 1951.

               3 F        ii.  Mary Elizabeth Fhy  was born on 12 May 1853 in Allegheny Co., PA. She died on 18 Jan 1924 in Oakdale, Allegheny Co., PA.

                                Mary was a housemaid.

               4 F        iii.  Martha S. (Mattie) Fhy  was born on 20 Dec 1855 in South Fayette, Allegheny Co., PA. She died on 17 Jul 1942 in Carnegie, Allegheny Co., PA.

xe "Stewart, Thomas E."Martha married Thomas E. Stewart  son of Isaac J. Stewart and Elizabeth Edwards on 21 Jun 1887 in Allegheny Co., PA. Thomas was born on 26 Sep 1851 in West Fayette Twp., Allegheny Co., PA. He died on 12 Mar 1918 in Carnegie, Allegheny Co., PA.

     Thomas was a carpenter.

Second Generation

2. Joseph William Fhy  (Michael) was born on 15 Mar 1857 in Allegheny Co., PA. He died on 7 Nov 1951 in Coarsegold, Madera Co., CA.

In 1900 Joseph farmed on North Hill Avenue in Pasadena with wife Lydia and children Joseph, Lawrence,

Martha and Mary. In 1910 he farmed in Forest Reserve, Madera County with Lydia and 5 children. In 1920

he farmed in Coarsegold with Lydia and children including daughter Mary Wright with her son Arthur, and

a border. In 1930 he and Lydia farmed in Coarsegold. In 1940 he lived in Madera with son Thomas. In

1950 he lived on Hwy 41 in Madera County with daughter Mattie.

Joseph W. Fhy, 93, Coarsegold Foothill Rancher, Succumbs COARSEGOLD, Madera Nov. William Fhy,

93, widely known Madera County foothill rancher, died yesterday in his home on his Lone Cedar Ranch,

above Coarsegold. He was a native of Pennsylvania and had been a resident of Coarsegold for 43 years.

    Fhy served on several Madera County grand juries and was active in school affairs of the mountain district.

In recent times his birthday each year was the occasion for a gathering of large groups of friends from the

foothill country and from Madera. He is survived by three sons, Thomas Fhy of Madera, Lawrence W. Fhy

of Fresno land Joseph E. Fhy of Compton; two daughters, Mrs. Mary Gowen and Mattie Fhy, both of

Coarsegold; seven grandchildren and three. great grandchildren. The funeral will be tomorrow afternoon

at 2 o'clock in the R. C. Jay Chapel in Madera. Burial will be in Arbor Vitae Cemetery, with F. Moran

Oakhurst, Raynor Daulton, Freeman Jones and Mason A. Bailey as pallbearers.

Joseph married Lydia Stratton  daughter of Josiah Stratton and Elizabeth Bundy in Aug 1891 in Pasadena, Los Angeles Co., CA. Lydia was born in Jul 1867 in IA. She died on 8 Nov 1936 in Madera Co., CA.

They had the following children:

               5 F         i.  Martha Helen (Mattie) Fhy  was born on 7 Sep 1895 in Altadena, Los Angeles Co., CA. She died on 29 Jul 1985 in Madera, Madera Co., CA.

                                 Mattie Fhy Court is a road off Highway 41 in Coursegold.

Obituary - Fresno Bee, July 31, 1985:

Mattie H. Fhy - MADERA, Memorial will be at services for Mattie H. Fhy, 89, will be at

11 a.m. Friday at Jay Chapel.

Ms. Fhy died Monday. She was born in Altadena and had lived in Madera for 23 years.

She had also lived in Coarsegold for 50 years. She was a homemaker. She was a

member of the First Presbyterian Church, a past matron of the Eastern Star Madera

Chapter No. 92 and a member of the Madera County Cowbelles and the Coarsegold

and Raymond Grandmothers' Club. Surviving are her nephew, Arthur Wright of

Coarsegold; and a niece, Mary Ann Finn of Pinole. The family requests that any

remembrance be sent to the American Cancer Society.

+          8 F       iv.  Mary E. Fhy  was born on 4 Dec 1897. She died on 16 May 1963.

             9 M       v.  Thomas Arthur Fhy  was born on 18 Nov 1909 in Coarsegold, Madera Co., CA. He died on 28 Jul 1964 in Madera Co., CA.

                                 Thomas did not marry.

Third Generation

6. Joseph Elton Fhy  (Joseph William Fhy, Michael) was born on 22 Mar 1892 in Altadena, Los Angeles Co., CA. He died on 25 Jul 1967 in Compton, Los Angeles Co., CA.

Joseph married (1) Lossie Alma Shannon daughter of James Shannon and Minnie B on 12 Dec 1912 in Brooke, West Virginia. Lossie was born on 2 Jul 1894 in Raccoon Twp, Beaver Co., PA. She died on 5 Nov 1975 in Hookstown, Beaver Co., PA.

 Lossie remarried to Lloyd Savage.

Joseph and Lossie had the following children:

             10 F         i.  Mary Thelma Fhy  was born on 12 Mar 1914 in PA. She died on 3 Jan 2001 in Beaver, Beaver Co., PA.

                                 Mary married Harvey Dustin McKim (1909-1940) and Franklin Leroy McMasters (1907-    ).   

Joseph married (2) Cornelia Edna (Connie) Silvis daughter of Lewis Erwin Silvis and Mary Elizabeth (Mollie) Robinson on 24 Dec 1935 in Los Angeles Co., CA. Cornelia was born on 22 Mar 1901 in Rural Valley, Armstrong Co., PA. She died on 12 Sep 1976 in Huntington Beach, Orange Co., CA.

They had the following children:

             11 M        ii.  William Lewis Fhy  was born on 11 Dec 1936 in Los Angeles Co., CA. He died on 31 Jul 2011 in Jefferson Co., WA.

                                  William married Dianna C. Clothier with several daughters.

7. Lawrence Warren Fhy  (Joseph William Fhy, Michael) was born on 15 Sep 1893 in Altadena, Los Angeles Co., CA. He died on 24 Mar 1980 in Merced Co., CA.

WINTON Services will be Thursday at 2 p.m. in United Mennonite Church of Atwater for Lawrence Warren

Fhy, 86, a retired railroad engineer. Rev. William Garrison, United Mennonite Church of Atwater, will

conduct the services and burial will be in Winton District Cemetery. Mr. Fhy died Monday, in a local

hospital. He was a native of California and had lived in Winton 20 years. He was a member of Sun Garden

Lodge No. 530, and AM, Fresno. He is survived by his wife, Selma Fhy, Winton; three daughters, Flora

Lee Hileman, Fresno, Lydia Sykes, Los Alamitos and Alice McDonald, San Diego; a sister, Mattie Fhy,

Madera and nine grandchildren. Memorial contributions to American Cancer Society or United Mennonite

8. Mary E. Fhy  (Joseph William Fhy, Michael) was born on 4 Dec 1897 in Altadena, Los Angeles Co., CA. She died on 16 May 1963 in Fresno Co., CA.

Mary married Joseph Ellsworth (Pat) Wright  son of Alonzo Wright and Mary F. Joseph was born on 6 May 1893 in CA. He died on 6 Mar 1917 in Oakhurst, Madera Co., CA.

Joseph and Mary had the following children:

Arthur married Muriel Opal Evans  daughter of James M. Evans and Minnie D. Hunter on 2 Mar 1940 in Pasadena, Los Angeles Co., CA. Muriel was born on 25 Nov 1916 in AR. Muriel remarried to Norman Wyman. She died on 9 Jun 1995 in Kern Co., CA.
